Planning a Dive
The DiveToolbox dive planner lets you plan single-level and multi-level dives with full decompression calculations. This page walks you through the basics of setting up a dive plan.
The dive planner requires an active premium subscription. You can subscribe from the Settings page in the sidebar.
Accessing the dive planner
Open the dive planner by clicking Dive Planner in the sidebar navigation. The planner opens with empty inputs, ready for you to configure your dive.
The planner interface is divided into three main sections:
- Depth and time inputs -- where you set your target depth and planned bottom time
- Tank configuration -- where you define your gas supply (covered in detail in Tank Configuration)
- Results panel -- where the calculated dive profile, decompression schedule, and gas consumption appear once all required inputs are filled in

Setting depth and bottom time
Depth
Enter your planned maximum depth in the depth field. The unit (meters or feet) follows your measurement preference set in Settings. You can toggle between metric and imperial units at any time -- the planner will convert the value automatically.
Bottom time
Enter the planned bottom time in minutes. This is the time spent at maximum depth before the ascent begins. Depending on your diver profile settings, descent time may or may not be included in this value (see Diver Profile for details).

Auto-calculation
The planner automatically recalculates your dive profile whenever a change is made. There is no "calculate" button to press. As soon as the three required elements are configured -- depth, bottom time, and at least one tank -- the results panel updates with:
- The full dive profile (descent, bottom, ascent, and any deco stops)
- Total runtime and total decompression time
- Gas consumption for each tank
- Any safety warnings related to your plan
If any required input is missing or invalid, the results panel remains empty until the configuration is complete.
What's next?
From here, you can refine your plan by:
- Switching to Multi-Level Dives for more complex profiles
- Configuring your Tank setup with the right gas mixes
- Adjusting your Diver Profile (gradient factors, SAC rates, speeds)
- Setting the Environment (water type and altitude)
- Planning a Successive Dive that accounts for residual gas loading
